(1) To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Royal Burgh of Jedburgh and its environs without distinction of sex, sexuality, political, religious or other opinions by associating the local statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities or assist in the provision of facilities, in the interests of social welfare, for recreation and other leisure time occupation so that their conditions of life may be improved (2) To promote the conservation, preservation and restoration of the environment of the Royal Burgh of Jedburgh providing always that this is for the public benefit and that any benefit conferred on private owners is greatly outweighed by the benefit to the general public (3) To promote for the benefit of the inhabitants the preservation of any buildings in the Royal Burgh of Jedburgh which are of historical and/or architectural merit and which are open to the general public, providing that any benefit conferred on private owners is greatly outweighed by the benefit to the community at large
