Frequently Asked Questions

Straightforward answers to the questions people ask most often about Switch4Good, how switching works, and how causes benefit.

About Switch4Good

What is Switch4Good?
We help UK households switch energy, broadband and insurance through providers who pay us a commission. At least 50% of eligible commission goes to the cause you choose — a school, charity, or community group near you.
Is Switch4Good a charity?
No. We're a commercial business (Switch4Good Limited, company no. 17000412). Our model is designed to redirect commercial commission into community benefit. We earn referral fees from providers and choose to share a significant portion with UK causes.
How do you make money?
Providers pay us an introducer commission when a switch completes. We retain part of this to run the service — covering platform costs, compliance, and operations — and pass the rest to causes.
Is there any extra cost to me?
No. The prices you see from providers are the same whether you use Switch4Good or go direct. The commission comes from the provider as a referral fee. It does not increase the price on your bill.
Is Switch4Good legitimate?
Switch4Good Limited is a UK company, registered with Companies House under number 17000412, with its registered office in Bristol. We're a commercial business and not a charity. Suppliers pay us commission when you switch through us, and at least 50% of eligible commission goes to the cause you choose, or to the Switch4Good Community Fund until you choose one. You switch directly with the supplier, so your contract is with them, not with us.

Switching

What services can I switch?
Energy (gas & electricity), broadband, and insurance. More services are being added over time. These are the most common household services where the commission model is well-established.
Will my supply be interrupted when I switch energy?
No. Energy switching is purely administrative. You keep the same pipes and wires — only the billing account changes. There is no physical interruption to your gas or electricity supply.
How long does an energy switch take?
Most switches complete within 5 working days after the 14-day cooling-off period. The cooling-off period lets you cancel without penalty if you change your mind.
Can I switch if I'm in a fixed contract?
You may face exit fees from your current provider. Check your contract terms before switching. You can switch penalty-free within 49 days of your contract end date — this is your switching window.
Do you cancel my old supplier?
For energy, no. Your new supplier arranges the switch and your old supplier sends a final bill. For broadband, your new provider usually arranges it through Ofcom's One Touch Switch process, so you don't need to contact your old one. Either way, check your current contract for exit fees before you switch. For a home battery or pet care plan there's nothing to cancel, because it's a new service rather than a switch.

Causes

How do causes receive funds?
We track attribution from switches and pass a share of commissions to causes on a regular cycle. All cause payments are logged with attribution data so you can see the impact of your switches.
How do I choose a cause?
Browse the cause directory, pick a school, charity or community group near you (or anywhere in the UK), and link them to your switching journey. You can change your cause at any time.
Can my school or charity register?
Yes. Use the Register page to apply. Schools verify via the DfE register and charities via the Charity Commission. Once approved, your organisation appears in the cause directory.

Payouts & commission

What is the Community Fund?
The Switch4Good Community Fund receives commission allocations where a specific cause cannot be named — for example with FCA-regulated products, or where a supporter does not select a specific cause. The fund distributes support to UK communities based on published criteria.
How do I know causes actually receive money?
We publish our commission model and impact updates. All cause payments are logged with attribution data. We do not hide deductions or make vague claims — the model is explained openly on our Commission Model page.
  1. You switch
  2. Contract goes live (after cooling-off, typically 30–90 days)
  3. Clawback window closes
  4. Quarter closes, we reconcile
  5. Paid to the cause (about 90 days after the month it completed)

Paid quarterly in arrears, around 90 days after the month a switch completes, once supplier clawback periods have passed.
