3.1 This clause shall be interpreted as if it incorporated an over-riding qualification limiting the powers of the Society such that any activity which would otherwise be permitted by the terms of the clause may be carried on only if that activity furthers a purpose which is regarded as charitable for the purposes of Section 505 Income and Corporation Taxes Act 1988 (including any statutory amendment or re-enactment for the time being in force). 3.2 Subject to the over-riding qualification in clause 3.1, the Society's objects are to advance the Christian religion. In furtherance thereof, but not otherwise, the Society shall seek: 3.2.1 to make the Bible available to people of every language, class and creed in a language they can understand, in a format they can use and at a price they can afford, and to encourage engagement with the Bible for the social and spiritual benefit of all people both in Scotland and elsewhere, but with only such note or comment as is necessary to assist engagement with the Bible and to enable effective partnership with the Christian churches. 3.2.2 to co-operate with members of the United Bible Societies and other organisations for the purpose of carrying out the activities set out in clause 3.2.1.
